Melk Abby
On our way to Vienna, we stopped by the Melk Abbey (yup...in Melk). By way of introduction here`s some info from Wikipedia (the link for the full page is below):

Melk Abbey (German: Stift Melk) is a Benedictine abbey above the town of Melk, Lower Austria, Austria, on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube river, adjoining the Wachau valley. The abbey contains the tomb of Saint Coloman of Stockerau and the remains of several members of the House of Babenberg, Austria`s first ruling dynasty.

Schloss Schoenbrunn
Schloss Schoenbrunn (Schoenbrunn Palace) is located in Hietzing the 13 municipal district of Vienna. From the website:
At the end of the seventeenth century Emperor Leopold I commissioned the Baroque architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, who had received his training in Rome, to design an imperial hunting lodge for his son, Crown Prince Joseph, later to become Emperor Joseph I. Replacing the château de plaisance built on this site for the dowager empress Eleonora of Gonzaga in 1642, it was to grow into a palatial imperial residence over the course of the eighteenth century.
So basically the Palace was originally a summer get-a-way for the prince.  Tough life!

Anyways it's beautiful!  The grounds are enormous and manicured to perfection (as you can see from the pictures.  We didn't spend a lot of time here (we stopped on our way into Vienna).  It's definitely worth a visit and be sure to allow enough time to see both the Palace and the gardens.  You can probably make this one a day long stop.

Vienna Opera House
The only way that we were going to see the Opera in Vienna was to stand in line for standing ticket (that's standing in the back for the entire performance).  That was not going to happen.  But we did want to see the Opera House.  On the afternoon of the 22nd there was a special tour of the opera house where we got to see the building, the auditorium and (frankly the most interesting part) the stage. No idea that the stage would be as large as it is.  Wow. This is a great tour.  Highly recommended.

BTW we did see the opera...they have a large display out front that you could watch the performance.  It's in the final two pictures below.
